Nettle Jobs

We're looking for two software developers with experience in building large systems. That's what we're building, with lots of components and functions that interact in near real time on the web and mobile platforms.

About us:

  • We use Linux, server clusters, load balancers, big and complex data systems.
  • We build asynchronous and distributed architectures using job queuing, messaging, sql and nosql tech.
  • Github is our CM system.
  • We use Python, Postgres, Apache and Nginx.
  • We want to use the right tool for the job and are evaluating Redis, Cassandra, RabbitMQ, ZeroMQ and other technologies.
  • While we like Python, we have experience in Java, C, Perl and understand their relative strengths.
  • We are backed by top investors and VC's from San Diego and the Silicon Valley.
  • We want to work with smart people who can teach us something.
  • Meaningful equity and good compensation is available.
  • We have lots of experience with successful startups.
  • Large high res displays and Aeron chairs are the norm.
  • Our engineering group tweets at twitter.com/nettledev. Join us!

About you as an engineer:

  • You'll be working to select the technologies used in the product. If you believe and can demonstrate that Cassandra / Redis / Memcached fits our problem space, we'll use it.
  • You will have access to a good amount of data to manipulate, scale, process and analyze in near real time.
  • You are a coder who enjoys building projects on your own.
  • You're very comfortable in the Unix/Linux command shell environment for development, minor administration, git and deployment activities.
  • You want to work with smart people from whom you can learn something.
  • You can teach us something about scaling and architecture.
  • You're a python/django person who is also quite familiar with at least C/C++, Perl or Java.
  • You understand concurrency, message based designs, the value of queues and shared nothing architectures.
  • You value production and focus on getting things done.
  • You have relevant experience or a demonstrably good academic track record.
  • You've read Adrian Cockcroft's (netflix architect) perfcap blog.

How to let us know about you:

  • You'll email us mentioning your github/HN/blog urls, personal projects, startups and anything you've done with opensource.
  • You are qualified to work in the US (we cannot support H1B visa requests).
  • You're interested in full-time employment in La Jolla, California.
  • You are not a recruiter (thanks, we already have a great one!).
